Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how CheckAut ("the App", "we") collects, uses, and protects user information ("you", "the user") when using our mobile application available on Google Play.

1. Information we collect

To provide the App's features, we collect the following data:

  • Account data: name, profile photo, and email address associated with your Google account, obtained via Google Sign-In.
  • Your vehicle data and activity: information you register about your vehicles (make, model, license plate, mileage), your expenses, reminders, and any documents you attach (for example insurance or registration). Vehicle photos, documents, and, if you have CheckAut Pro, a receipt photo on an expense, are securely stored in Firebase Storage (a Google service), tied only to your account.
  • Location (free text, optional): when logging an expense you can manually type an address or paste a link — it's a text field you type yourself, the App does not access your device's GPS.
  • Device permissions: notification permission, used exclusively for your reminders.
  • Usage and diagnostic data: in-app interactions, performance, and crash reports (see section 4).

CheckAut does not currently use artificial intelligence services to process your information. If we add this kind of feature in the future, we will update this Policy before enabling it and let you know within the App.

2. How we use your information

We use the collected information exclusively to:

  • Allow you to sign in securely using your Google account.
  • Sync and back up your vehicle and expense data across devices.
  • Send you the reminder notifications you configure yourself. This permission is requested when you activate your first reminder and can be revoked from your device settings.
  • Improve the App's functionality and user experience.

3. Where your data is stored

Your data is stored in two ways:

  • Locally on your device, for fast offline access.
  • In the cloud, via Firebase Firestore (a Google service), to keep your information synced and backed up.

We do not sell or share your personal information with third parties for advertising purposes. The only data shared is what's necessary for Firebase/Google to function, our provider for authentication and database infrastructure.

4. Analytics and diagnostics (Google Analytics and Crashlytics)

We use Firebase Analytics (Google Analytics for Firebase) and Firebase Crashlytics to understand how the App is used and to detect and fix errors, solely to improve its functionality and your experience.

  • Firebase Analytics collects interaction data (screens visited, features used, events such as adding a vehicle or completing a purchase) and an anonymous app installation identifier. We do not use this information for advertising purposes or combine it with advertising identifiers.
  • Firebase Crashlytics collects technical reports when the App crashes unexpectedly, so we can diagnose and fix the issue.

This data is not used to personally identify you and is not shared with advertisers or sold to third parties.

5. Authentication

CheckAut uses Google Sign-In through Firebase Authentication to manage sign-in. We do not store your Google password; authentication is securely handled by Google and Firebase.

6. In-app subscription

The App offers CheckAut Pro, an auto-renewing subscription (billed either monthly or annually, your choice), through Google Play Billing. Payment processing is handled directly by Google Play; CheckAut does not store or have access to your card or payment method information. To verify a purchase, we send Google the transaction identifier (never your card data), and Google confirms to us whether it's valid.

We store your subscription status (active, grace period, canceled, expired) so we know whether you have access to Pro features — this status is determined solely by Google Play's response, never by something the App decides on its own.

7. Third parties we share information with

The only third party involved in processing your data is Google / Firebase, used for:

  • User authentication (Firebase Authentication).
  • Cloud data storage (Firebase Firestore).
  • Vehicle photo storage (Firebase Storage).
  • In-app purchase processing (Google Play Billing).
  • App usage analytics (Firebase Analytics).
  • Crash and error diagnostics (Firebase Crashlytics).

We do not share your information with advertisers or any other third party outside of these services.

8. Account and data deletion

You can delete your account and all associated data (vehicles, expenses, reminders, and profile data) directly from the App. Deletion is permanent and irreversible. See the "Delete account" tab on this page for detailed steps.

9. Security

We implement reasonable security measures to protect your information, including restricted access rules in Firebase Firestore that ensure each user can only access their own data. All communication between the App and our servers uses encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS).

10. Children

CheckAut is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under that age.

11. International data transfers

CheckAut originates in Colombia, but uses Google / Firebase infrastructure, whose servers may be located outside Colombia (mainly in the United States). This means your information may be stored or processed in another country as part of the service's normal operation. Google applies its own security measures and contractual clauses to protect this information during processing and international transfer.

12. Your rights over your data (Habeas Data)

Under Colombian Law 1581 of 2012 and its implementing decrees, as the data subject you have the right to:

  • Know, update, and correct your personal information.
  • Request proof of the authorization granted for the processing of your data.
  • Delete your data and/or revoke the authorization granted, when there is no legal or contractual duty preventing its deletion.
  • File complaints with Colombia's Superintendencia de Industria y Comercio (SIC) for violations of data protection law.

You can exercise these rights directly from the App (the "Delete account and data" section) or by writing to us at checkaut.soporte@gmail.com; we will handle your request within the timeframes required by law.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally. We will notify significant changes through the App or this page.
